Thank you for the kōrero

We’ve had a busy month working alongside our good friends at Mangere East Family Services to share our plans for Mangere East with the community. Our plans aim to deliver more, warm, dry, quality homes and improved infrastructure in the area. We want to create opportunities for locals to thrive, while also making it possible for others to call this community home.

The wet and unsettled weather of November did nothing to slow down the team at Mangere East Family Services, who hit the streets to talk to locals about the planned redevelopment of this community. Hundreds of kōrero were had over four weeks - mostly on front lawns and doors steps, and at least one from the back garden while helping auntie deal to her weeds! Despite the rain, everyone was happy to chat, and we were grateful to hear a wide range of views and local knowledge that will help shape our plans.

We also hosted five kānohi ki te kānohi engagements (drop in’s, stalls at local festivals) and handed out over 3,000 feedback postcards.

We are now collating the feedback to understand what things are most important to you, and where you’d like to see us focus our efforts. We will report back to you in early 2023 with the key findings and also share the next steps of this initial stage – which will include further engagement, planning and consents.

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to share your thoughts and future dreams for this neighbourhood. And an extra special shout out to our awesome partners at Mangere East Family Service for leading these important kōrero.
