MANGERE THIS SPRING: WHAT'S TAKING SHAPE

We're transforming our community with new dry, modern homes, better streets and parks. As we spring into the new season, there's plenty of progress to share, from flood resilience projects reaching key milestones to new homes completing and construction ramping up ahead of the next stages in Mangere East.

We've also reached an important step for the next phases of Te Ararata. The Kāinga Ora Board has approved the business cases for Te Ararata A Stages 3 and 4 and Te Ararata B. We are now awaiting ministerial approval, which we expect before June 2027.

FLOOD RESILIENCE PROGRESS IN MANGERE

Flood resilience work is well underway across Mangere East and Te Ararata, and several projects are nearing completion.

  • Walmsley Culvert upgrade Complete: A debris screen will be finished by the end of October. The screen will capture large floating objects that could cause blockages downstream.

  • Tennessee Culvert upgrade: The Tennessee Culvert upgrade is on track for completion by the end of November 2026.

  • Archboyd pump station: Currently under construction, due for completion by the end of 2027.

Both culvert projects will significantly improve flood resilience in their catchments.

STORMWATER MANAGEMENT PLANS PROGRESSING

Two stormwater management plans are now moving through Auckland Council's Healthy Waters team:

  • Mangere East Stages 2 and 3: The plan is with Healthy Waters, and adoption is underway. Approval is due by the end of November 2026.

  • Te Ararata B: The plan has been formally submitted to Council for adoption. Approval is due by the end of November 2026.

Once adopted, these plans will help guide the stormwater work needed as these neighbourhoods continue to take shape.

LOCAL TAMARIKI ARE HELPING GROW RESPECT FOR TREES IN MANGERE

Students from Moanaroa School and tamariki from after-school care at Mangere Community Centre took part in Growing Respect: Mangere Trees, learning how trees provide shade, cleaner air and habitat for wildlife. Their artwork now hangs as colourful banners along the fence beside Reporepo Park in Aorere. Read the article here.
