WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING IN MANGERE?
We’re transforming our community with warm, dry, modern homes, better streets and parks. As we get closer to winter, there's a lot to share – from completed parks and ongoing flood resilience work to new homes on the horizon and the next chapter for Mangere East.

FLOOD RESILIENCE: KEEPING MANGERE SAFER
Work to address long-standing flooding issues in Mangere East and Te Ararata is well under way, and progress is on track.
Key projects underway:
- Te Ararata Creek (Walmsley culvert upgrade) – due for completion mid-2026
- Harania Creek (Tennessee culvert upgrade) – also on track for mid-2026
- A stormwater management plan for the southern part of Te Ararata catchment is due to be approved by Auckland Council's Healthy Waters by mid-2026
This work is an important step before new housing can begin in these areas – making the neighbourhood safer and more resilient for current and future residents.
REPOREPO PARK: OPEN AND THRIVING
Reporepo Park was completed and officially opened in November, celebrated with a blessing and community gathering. It's a space for the whole neighbourhood to enjoy, and a sign of the positive changes taking shape across Mangere.
MANGERE EAST: THE NEXT CHAPTER
Civil construction is set to begin in Mangere East stages 1 and 4 from mid-2026. Our teams are busy working with local community group ME Family Services to make sure local residents know what we’re doing, why our community needs these upgrades, and what the future will look like.
This means you might see members of the ME Family Services team, like Serena, May and Lillie, knocking on doors in our neighbourhood – sharing plans, offering translation support for Samoan and Tongan speakers, and answering any questions people may have. If you see them out and about, be sure to say kia ora!

Infrastructure design for stages 1 and 4 is progressing, and we expect to start relocating current tenants from Stage 1 homes from mid 2026. A stormwater management plan for future stages was also submitted with Auckland Council's Healthy Waters in April 2026.

In Te Ararata, 19 new homes being built by the New Zealand Housing Foundation on Welby Place are on track for completion in mid-2026. New social homes in Aorere are set to begin construction in winter 2026.
Another 30 homes are being built in Watchfield Close through a partnership between Gemscott and CORT Community Housing. Ten units will be sold on the open market, with the remaining 20 to be managed by CORT as community housing. Construction is expected to start in the next few weeks.
